Telangana DGP Anurag Sharma, along with several key police officials from across the State, reviewed a five-year prospective plan to strengthen the Telangana State Police.
He reviewed the State's reorganization plans, plans to incorporate the latest technology into the police department, increase in cyber crimes, research and development facilities and ways to improve them, forensics departments, statistics on Maoist movements along Telangana-Odisha border, advanced police training, traffic management and road safety issues.
The DGP said that the next meeting would be held after the Ganesh immersion procession. The meeting will be held for two days for reviewing units and districts, and preparing reports on the vision for the future and the budget requirements to revamp the department.
He also said that the Superintendents Of Police in each district would form a third-party team to monitor the functioning of the district police.
"As the DGP, I meet with 20 to 30 complainants each day and try to solve their problems as the district SPs often don't give them time due to schedule restrictions. But regardless of the schedule, the SPs should make themselves available to all citizens equally," he warned the SPs present.
Hyderabad Commissioner of Police M Mahender Reddy said that the State police had already won several accolades for its efforts in making things easy for the public in the passport process, paying challans and others. All the 60 police stations in the twin cities would be modernized within the next five years as per the plan, he promised. The Cyber Security Council and the She-Shuttles would also be strengthened further for effective functioning.
Reddy said, "The police is taking strict measures in order to curb the crime rate in the city. The penalty for chain-snatching has been enhanced to imprisonment of 7 years. Motorists riding without helmets are being recorded in the command and control system via CCTV cameras. The names of repeat traffic violators are going down in the police records."
Warangal Police Commissioner Sudheer Babu said that around 10,000 CCTVs had been installed in different localities and colonies under his jurisdiction, resulting in reduced crime rate. The installation of security cameras on all the highways leading towards the Warangal district was in progress, he said. He requested the DGP to consider a new building for the Police Comissionerate.
Director of the Telangana State Police Academy Dr Ish Kumar said that the academy was founded in 1986, and yet a lot of proposals for its improvement were pending, and the modules for the intelligence, security, traffic and transport wings were yet to be developed.
IGP Nagireddy gave a presentation on the details of the new districts that were proposed in Telangana.
All the additional DGPs, IGPs, DIG and SPs of the Telangana police attended the meeting.
