The Hyderabad police claim to have cracked four major criminal cases in very short time - ranging from a shocking kidnap-for-ransom plot masterminded by a wife, to a brutal murder, a narcotics bust, and a gold chain snatching.
In the first case, the Amberpet police arrested 10 accused, including 51-year-old M Madhavi Latha, who allegedly orchestrated the abduction of her husband, M Shyam, for ransom.
The incident occurred on October 29, when Shyam was kidnapped from D D Colony by a gang hired by his wife. The abductors demanded Rs 1 crore, but the victim managed to escape two days later near Banjara Hills.
Investigations revealed that Latha planned the abduction to eliminate her husband and gain control over his properties. The police seized three cars, two bikes and several mobile phones. The case was solved within days under the supervision of DCP East Zone B Balaswamy.
In another swift breakthrough, the Balanagar police solved a murder case within hours of the crime. The accused, 24-year-old Sidhapuram Ajay, was arrested for fatally stabbing Mohammed Gafoor, a 39-year-old chef from Vattepally, following a heated argument near Gudenmet X Road on November 3. The murder weapon - a fruit-cutting knife - was seized.
In a major blow to the city's drug network, the Gachibowli police, in coordination with the SOT Madhapur Zone, arrested 11 persons under the NDPS Act, 1985. The police raided S M Luxury Guest Room Co-living and PG Hostel in Gachibowli on November 3, and arrested two primary accused - Teja and Pakanati Lokesh Reddy. Their confessions led to the arrest of others from a Madhapur hotel. The seized items included 32.14 grams of MDMA, 4.67 grams of ganja, Rs 10,000 cash, mobile phones, weighing machines and packaging materials. Two Nigerian nationals linked to the network are absconding, and efforts are on to trace interstate suppliers and financial links.
In another case, R C Puram police, with the help of the CCS Madhapur Zone, nabbed 31-year-old Syed Abdulla of Shanthi Nagar, Sangareddy, for a chain-snatching incident on October 27. The accused attacked a young engineering student near Diamond Point and snatched her gold chain, injuring her neck. CCTV footage helped the police trace and arrest Abdulla, who confessed to the crime, citing financial distress. The stolen gold and two-wheeler used in the offence were recovered.
