Police Ask Companies To Take Care Of Migrant Workers
The Cyberabad police warned of action against companies and labour supervisors for abetting the violation of the lockdown by causing migrants to leave.
With the lockdown in the country being extended up to May 3, a large number of people, mostly migrant workers from the neighbouring states, have been found to be trying to return to their homes by walk.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar said that many of them were carrying children and luggage, too, and were seen walking on the highways, which was highly risky.
"There is a high possibility that these workers and their families may become victims of road accidents or suffer due to dehydration and other health issues. The administration is making all necessary arrangements to provide them food and shelter in the city during the lockdown period. However, due to various apprehensions about the lockdown, many migrants are deciding to take up the Herculean task of returning to their faraway native places on walk," Sajjanar said.
He urged the migrant workers to not to have any misgivings about the lockdown, and to stay wherever they were and seek the help of the administration or the police for any issues of food or shelter.
He also asked the managements of all companies including construction companies, and labour supervisors, to counsel their migrant workers and take care of their stay.
"Legal action will be taken against the managements of the companies and the labour supervisors concerned for abetting the violation of lockdown orders by causing migrants to leave," he said.
