A massive fire broke out at a tyre godown in Old City's Afzal Gunj area today.
Large flames leapt out of the site after the fire broke out, leaving locals terrified as the godown is located close to a petrol pump.
The entire area was seen covered in thick smoke that was emanating from the flames. Piles of gutted, melting tyres were also seen lying around.
A total of eight fire engines had to be rushed to the spot to get the fire under control. Thankfully, however, no casualties have been reported.
The incident led to a huge traffic jam between Chaderghat and Afzal Gunj.
Though the police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, the losses to property are yet to be estimated.
This is just one among a series of fires that have broken out in the city, in the recent past.
Just last month, a fire broke out at one of the pillars of the
Punjagutta flyover, causing a huge traffic jam in the area. Though nobody was hurt, the smoke from the flames made it difficult for many commuters in the area to breathe.
Officials had stated that the fire was caused when some lights, put up to decorate the ornamental plants in the vertical garden on the affected pillar, short circuited.
