Authorities today began demolishing a four-story building in Siddique Nagar, Gachibowli, after it was found dangerously tilting to one side causing panic among local residents.
The demolition commenced on the top floor with the help of a hydraulic machine. The hydraulic machine was brought to the site on Wednesday morning, and demolition work began promptly.
HYDRA and GHMC officials swiftly evacuated residents from the surrounding areas too to ensure safety.
The incident occurred late Tuesday night when the building, constructed on a small plot two years ago, began leaning precariously. Reports suggest that the tilting may have been caused by the excavation of pits for a new structure being built behind it. Around 8:30 pm, the sudden tilt forced the building's 30 occupants to flee in fear.
Iqbal Hussain, a resident on the third floor, panicked and jumped, sustaining serious injuries. He was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital by local residents.
Swapna, the building's owner, blamed the adjacent construction activity for the incident. "The building tilted due to the pits dug nearby. We built this house two years ago with money borrowed after selling our farm. If it collapses, it will destroy my family's future," she lamented, expressing her despair at the financial loss and its impact on her children.
