The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday expressed displeasure over the poor treatment of patients at the Government Maternity Hospital at Koti.
Admitting a complaint suo motu on the horrible conditions in the Koti hospital, apparently after seeing a photograph in a newspaper of women in labour waiting under trees outside the place, the High Court inquired into the issue and censured the hospital administration for the situation and maladministration that were causing severe hardships to the patients.
The government's counsel submitted that the hospital was actually catering to 300 patients at a time despite having only 160 beds, but the bench was less than happy with the explanation.
The High Court constituted a committee with two women advocates to inspect the hospital and submit a fact-finding report to it within three weeks.
