Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy today handed over 100 cylinders of medical oxygen, belonging to the DRDO, to the management of Hyderabad's Gandhi Hospital for the treatment of critical Covid-19 patients.
Hospital superintendent Dr Raja Rao received the cylinders on behalf of the management. DRDO Missiles Wing DG M S R Prasad was also present on the occasion.
Speaking about the allocation, Kishan Reddy said, "Gandhi Hospital is the biggest Covid- 19 facility in India with its 650 ICU beds. The hospital has been treating patients not only from the two Telugu-speaking states but also from various other regions of the country. To meet the hospital's growing demand for medical oxygen, I had recently made a request to Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh to supply oxygen cylinders to the facility. Following this, DRDO chief Satish agreed to give the nitrogen cylinders used by the DRDO to the hospital after their conversion into oxygen cylinders."
"The BJP-led Centre will always try to support the people of this nation and of Telangana through their happy and sad moments," he added.
The minister also spoke about the issue of the shortage of medical oxygen in the state, and revealed that he had spoken to Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar about the matter and had asked him to submit a report on the same, and that he would himself meet with Union Minister Piyush Goel to request the latter to allocate higher quantities of both oxygen and Remdisivir injections to the state.
Saying that the pandemic chain could only be broken by the public themselves, Reddy then urged the people of Telangana not to step out of their houses unless there was an absolute need to do so, and urged Covid-19 positive patients to observe strict quarantine till they tested negative.
