Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy today faulted the decision of the Telangana government to
stop ambulances carrying Covid-19 patients from neighbouring states, like Andhra Pradesh, from entering the state.
He said that stopping ambulances was not acceptable especially during the current health emergency caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Reddy also pointed out that such an emergency called not for such restrictions but for increased cooperation between the two Telugu states.
"Stopping ambulances will not solve anything. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and the concerned officials to sit down and formulate an action plan that will resolve the issue at the earliest. The stoppage of the ambulances at the border by the state police is inhuman. The Union Home Secretary has already pointed out the unfairness of the decision to Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar," the minister added.
He demanded that the KCR government honour the
orders of the Telangana High Court.
The Telangana government has faced much flak for its move to restrict ambulance entry from other states. However, it continues to maintain that it has the right to take the steps it deems necessary to protect the people of the state from the pandemic.
Meanwhile, the AP government has said that the decision to regulate the entry of ambulances from other states violates the very Acts cited by the TRS regime in the government order calling for the border restrictions, and has demanded that the decision be rolled back.
