A fatal road accident at the Wipro circle near Gachibowli claimed the lives of five youngsters in the early hours of Sunday.
The accident took place when a tipper lorry rammed into a Maruti Swift carrying the five passengers, after the car jumped a red light and took a U-turn.
When the police reached the spot to start rescue operations, they found that four of the car's five passengers had died on the spot. The bodies were sent to the Osmania General Hospital for autopsy.
Though they rushed the fifth passenger, the driver, to a private hospital for treatment, he, too, succumbed to his injuries.
The police said that the driver of the lorry had suffered some minor wounds.
The Gachibowli police registered a case and started an investigation to look into the matter.
The victims, identified as Katragadda Santosh, Chintha Manohar, Pappu Bharadwaj, Kolluru Pavan Kumar and Nagishetty Roshan, were natives of Andhra Pradesh. They had been living in a hostel at Madhapur.
There has been a spate of similar accidents in the state of late. Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar had recently chaired
a meeting on December 10 to address the issue through stricter implementation of road safety measures in the state.
