The Chilkalguda police today arrested four persons including a lab technician employed at the Secunderabad-based Gandhi Hospital in the horrific rape case that recently took place at the hospital.
The police had launched an investigation into the matter after a complainant (38) had alleged that she and her 40-year-old sister were raped in a room by a lab technician who had drugged them. She had said in her complaint that she was able to approach the police as she had managed to escape. But, the locations of her sister was unknown to her.
(The complainant's sister has still not been found.)
Talking about the case, Chilkalguda Inspector G Naresh stated, "The complaint had accompanied her sister and brother-in-law (45) to the hospital on August 5 as her brother-in-law required medical attention. After the necessary checkups and treatment, he was discharged on August 13. It was in these eight days that the sisters went missing."
The police are interrogating the accused lab technician Uma Maheswar and six others in the case. Police personnel have also visited the hospital to gather clues.
Meanwhile Telangana Women’s Commission Chairperson Sunitha Lakshma Reddy expressed her anger over the incident and said that the state government would stand by the two women. She also spoke to the hospital superintendent regarding the matter.
Speaking to the media later, Reddy said that it would be difficult to unearth the actual sequence of events unless the complainant "opened her mouth". She said that she would talk to the woman in an effort to find the truth and assured the public that stern action would be taken against the perpetrators of the heinous act.
On the other hand, hospital superintendent Dr Raja Rao said that the hospital management had not received any complaint from anybody about the rape, and claimed that no such incident had taken place in the facility.
Rao also said that a total of 189 CCTV cameras had been installed on the premises and added that it had an adequate amount of security, asserting that there was "no scope for the commitment of such a rape" in the hospital cellar as it had a canteen, medical store and a dhobi ghat.
