An estimated 20 women staged a dharna before the office of the South Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police at Purani Haveli, on Thursday, to protest alleged harassment by the local police in a dowry case.
The women alleged that the Santoshnagar police had wrongly booked 2 persons in a dowry harassment case.
Based on a complaint filed by Reshma, the Santoshnagar police had registered a case of attempted murder, dowry harassment, and other relevant sections, against her husband Ghouse Pasha and her in-laws, about 2 months ago.
However, the police arrested their neighbors - Zarina and Razia - in the case this week.
Zarina's relatives claimed that because they were neighbors, they were not connected to the case at all.
Accompanied by the local residents, the relatives first met Home Minister K Sabhitha Indira Reddy, seeking help, on Thursday. At her suggestion, they later met the DCP of the South Zone, Manish Kumar Sinha.
The DCP has reportedly assured the relatives that he would enquire into the matter. (INN)
