A customer who went to eat biryani in a restaurant under Panjagutta police limits was fatally attacked by the hotel staff.
The victim succumbed to the injuries suffered during the attack.
According to the police, the scuffle broke out when Mohammed Liyaqat, who had gone for biryani in Meridian Hotel in Panjagutta along with a couple of friends, asked for extra curd (raita). Things reportedly escalated when he was refused and the waiter was apparently rude to him. Liyaqat reportedly slapped the waiter, and other waiters then came to the latter's rescue, and started beating up Liyaqat, reportedly at the behest of the hotel owner.
Upon receiving the information, the Punjagutta police rushed to the spot. Liyaqat was however attacked even in the presence of the police.
The police then took Liyaqat and the staff of the hotel to the police station. During the subsequent interactions at the police station, Liyaqat lost consciousness due to the injuries inflicted during the dust-up. The police rushed him to the nearby Deccan Hospital, where he breathed his last.
The police shifted the body to the Gandhi Hospital mortuary for a post mortem. MIM MLC Mirza Rehmat Baig spoke to the police asking for strict action in the case. The SI and constable who handled the issue have been suspended.
Liyaqat hails from Chandrayangutta area, and runs a used cars business there.
