The two cities prepared an action plan to research Hyderabad's impact on climate change, and also to fix the latter's pollution problems.
Hyderabad | 10th January 2017
The Environment Protection Training and Research Institute (EPTRI), Telangana's nodal agency on Climate Change, and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) jointly organized a two-day workshop with the support of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD), USA.
The workshop comes in the background of Hyderabad being one of the most water stressed metro cities with insufficient waste treatment facilities, and the State government expressed hope in ensuring sustainable growth for the city, improving water availability, and public health.
The MWRD and their delegates shared their experiences and good practices related to all the aspects of water resources management, including the creation of sustainable solutions, efficiency, governance, and management among others. The MWRD is managing the entire sewage system, storm water drainage and the sewage treatment plants at Cook County, Illinois, where it has been successful in developing and operating a sustainable system.
As per reports, the EPTRI prepared an action plan on Climate Change. Besides making an environmental report for the State and for Hyderabad, it is also preparing a water report.
Director General of the EPTRI B Kalyan Chakravarthy, Municipal Administration Secretary Navin Mittal, HMWSSB Managing Director M D Kishore, Executive Director MWRD (USA) David St. Pierre, and several other prominent figures in the field of research (environment and climate change) were present.
