State BJP senior leader Gudur Narayana Reddy on Monday demanded that Hyderabad Commissioner of Police dismiss four constables who he claimed had assaulted a gym trainer in Mettuguda on Friday night.
Gudur said that though the Telangana police claimed that they had been following friendly policing, this inhuman incident belied their claims.
He said that the "brutal and inhuman" behaviour of the Chilkalguda police proved once again that there was no change in the "criminal attitude" of the police towards the common people, and that they freely flouted all the norms stipulated by the rules, court orders and the Constitution of India.
He said that though the police were strictly forbidden from using third degree methods even in the police station, the Chilkalguda police brazenly violated the rules and publicly behaved inhumanly in the incident.
"The police attacked an innocent person like goondas," he lamented.
Gudur said that a small altercation had taken place between the victim Arogya Raj, a gym trainer, and a motorbike rider in Mettuguda last Friday.
The person who rode the bike lodged a complaint with the police on the same night. Four constables then reached the house of Arogya Raj at 11 pm and asked him to come to the police station. But Raj refused to go, and told the police that he would appear in the police station in the morning.
The police then proceeded to brutally assault Raj in the presence of his mother. They used a bludgeon to beat him up, placing it between his legs and kicking him with boots brutally.
The BJP leader said that in the attack a leg of Arogya Raj was broken and that he sustained a severe injury on the other.
The police also punched the face of Arogya Raj relentlessly and mercilessly, Gudur claimed.
He said that the victim was undergoing treatment in a private hospital.
Despite the cruelty involved, the higher-ups in the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate had so far not acted on the incident, Gudur lamented. He demanded that the four constables be dismissed immediately for violating all norms and using brutal force against an innocent person.
He also said that the BJP would not keep silent on this issue, and would fight until justice was meted out to the victim.
