A 90-day special drive by the HMWSSB aimed at cleaning sewerage pipelines and constructing soak pits in consumer premises has been launched in Hyderabad.
The drive was inaugurated by State Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar in the premises of Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital in Mehdipatnam.
Prominent attendees to the event included GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, Rajya Sabha Member Anil Kumar Yadav, local MLA Majid Hussain, Water Board MD Ashok Reddy and Hyderabad Collector Anudeep Durishetty.
The drive will focus on maintaining soak pits from October 2 to December 31, and identification of frequently overflowing manholes will be prioritised.
Special efforts will also be made to install soak pits in apartment complexes and colonies to prevent rainwater wastage.
The conditions and capacities of underground drainage pipelines will also be assessed, and measures will be taken to enhance pipeline capacity and replace outdated ones.
Special sewerage teams equipped with air-tech machines will be deployed daily for field work, and GPS tracking will be used to monitor on-ground work in real time.
With over 5.5 lakh manholes in the city and 1,950 locations identified as daily sewage overflow points, the drive aims to ensure proper sewage treatment through STPs. The goal is to reduce sewerage issues by 30% within three months.
This drive marks the first step in the efforts to attain the goal of CM Revanth Reddy to make Hyderabad a sewerage overflow-free city within two years.
