Allegedly feeling humiliated over a scolding by his family elders for a domestic spat with his newly-married wife, a 23-year-old youth slit his wife's throat and committed suicide, under Koduru police station limits in Kadapa, in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
According to Inspector Surya Narayana, Kondaiah had got married to Anuradha (16) 45 days ago, and was residing in K S Agraharam, Chitvel Mandal, in Kadapa district.
3 days ago, Anuradha had left for her parents' home following a spat with her husband over a petty issue. She had come back on her parents' advice.
Meanwhile, Kondaiah was scolded by the elders of his family for fighting with his new bride. This left him feeling humiliated.
Kondaiah is believed to have blamed his wife for his purported loss of face in front of his immediate and extended family.
Early on Monday morning, at around 2:30am, he slit his wife's with the help of a knife while she was asleep.
After committing the act, he called his parents-in-law and informed them of the deed. He also told them that he was going to take his own life.
Kondaiah consumed pesticides after disconnecting the call.
His parents-in-law rushed to Kondaiah's residence and alerted others the others at around 5am on Tuesday morning. They broke open the door to find their daughter in a pool of blood while Kondaiah was found dead due to poisoning.
Police reached the spot on getting information, and shifted the victims to the nearest hospital for autopsy. A suicide note and the knife used to slit Anuradha's throat was seized from the scene of the crime.
