The honorarium of Zilla Parishad chairpersons has been increased from Rs. 7,500 to Rs. 1,00,000 per month, and that of mayors from Rs. 14,000 to Rs. 50,000.
The Telangana government has decided to enhance the honorariums paid to the elected representatives of Panchayat Raj and urban local bodies.
Making a statement in the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Friday, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said that the Panchayat Raj and urban local bodies played a vital role at the grassroots of our democracy.
"Although there were long-pending demands from the elected representatives of these local bodies, the previous governments never considered their requests. With a view to improve the dignity of the local body representatives and to improve their services to the people at the grassroots level, the government has decided to enhance the honorarium paid to them," he said.
The honorarium of Zilla Parishad chairpersons has been increased from the existing Rs. 7,500 to Rs. 1,00,000 per month. ZPTC members get a hike from Rs. 2,250 to Rs. 10,000, MPP Presidents from Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 10,000, MPTC members from Rs. 750 to Rs. 5,000, and Gram Panchayat Sarpanches from the existing Rs. 1,000-1,500 to Rs. 5,000 per month.
Likewise, the honorariums for urban local body representatives have been revised with effect from April 1 this year:
Mayor - Rs. 50,000 (currently Rs. 14,000)
Deputy Mayor - Rs. 25,000 (Rs 8,000)
Corporators - Rs. 6,000 (Rs 4,000)
Chairperson (Special Grade) - Rs. 15,000 (Rs 10,000)
All Other Chairpersons - Rs. 12,000 (Rs 8,000)
Vice-Chairperson (Special Grade) - Rs. 7,500 (Rs 5,000)
All Other Vice-Chairpersons - Rs. 5,000 (Rs 3,200)
Councillors (Special Grade) - Rs. 3,500 (Rs 2,200)
All Other Councillors - Rs. 2,500 (Rs. 1,800)
The Chief Minister said that the necessary orders would be issued by the government to effect the enhanced rates from the next financial year. (INN)
