Veteran Congress leader and party MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy today said that he was hoping that the party high command would consider his name too for the post of Telangana Chief Minister.
Speaking to media persons in Delhi, Reddy said that he didn't come into the party from outside.
"I have been with the Congress since the beginning of my career. I never left the party. I have been an MLA seven times. I met the Congress party leaders. I told them what I had to say. The party high command should look at all factors like loyalty, track record and image before selecting the CM candidate. But ultimately we will respect the party's decision on the choice of the CM, and my wife and I will always work on the ground for the party, and do the work assigned to us effectively," he said.
He said that he could not campaign aggressively for the party in the recent Assembly elections as he was not the TPCC chief. "There are special conditions for every election. When I was the PCC chief, the BRS did not have any strong opposition in the State. But now there is a lot of opposition to it. I was not the PCC president, so I could not campaign at that level in these Assembly elections," he said.
He said that the party had expected 70 seats in the elections, and that it was disappointing that it could win only 64 seats. He also said that the party had not won a single seat in the GHMC limits, and that he did not expect such a result in the capital.
He also said that he had come to New Delhi to attend the ongoing Parliament session.
