The Telangana High Court today declined to give permission for a Moharram procession in the Old City of Hyderabad.
Relying on a Supreme Court order, Justice T Vinod Kumar of the High Court rejected the plea of civil society organisation Fathima Sevadal Society seeking permission to take out a Moharram procession on August 30.
The court said that any religious activity confined to within a mosque could not be interfered with, but that processions were strictly banned.
It said that the SC judgement on the issue had made that abundantly clear, and that it could not grant any permission to the society to hold any procession given the judgment of the apex court of the country in the matter.
The society had said that it would hold the procession from Bibi Ka Alawa in Dabeerpura to Chaderghat.
