HC Pulls Up Telangana Govt For Delaying GHMC Polls
The High Court directed the government to come up with the possible date for holding polls. Else, it said that it would itself announce the schedule for the elections.
The Hyderabad High Court has directed the Telangana government to hold the elections for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) at the earliest.
Hearing the Public Interest Litigation filed by M Pamanabha Reddy of the Centre for Good Governance, the High Court has refused to buy the state government's contention that it needed another 246 days to hold the elections.
In its counter petition, the GHMC said that another 246 days were needed to complete the process of delimitation of the GHMC wards and reserve divisions. It said that the orders for the delimitation of wards had already been issued. It assured that the government would conduct the elections by December this year.
However, the High Court directed the government to come up with the possible dates for holding the polls. Else, it said that it would itself announce the schedule for the elections.
The next hearing on the case is scheduled for April 6. (INN)
