The Hyderabad High Court today dismissed the petition filed by the affected farmers of the Mallanna Sagar project, after Advocate General Ramakrishna Reddy informed the Court that the government was ready to pay the compensation demanded by the farmers.
Reddy also informed the Court that G O No 123 was only a process, and that the government would proceed forward as per the Land Acquisition Act in case the farmers were not ready to give up their lands.
He confirmed to the High Court that the government would not acquire the lands forcefully, and would do it only with the consent of the farmers.
Satisfied with the explanation of the Advocate General, the High Court dismissed the petition filed by the farmers affected by the project.
It may be recalled that the farmers affected by the Mallanna Sagar project approached the Court alleging that the government was acquiring their lands forcefully. Adiyala Ranga Reddy and 11 other farmers from three villages in the Thoguta mandal in the Medak district approached the court urging it to direct the government to stop land acquisition through G O No 123 and implement the 2013 Land Acquisition Act.
