Hyderabad | 16th August 2016
The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday passed the Telangana government's GO 190 (a revision of GO 123) for acquiring lands from farmers for irrigation and reservoir projects, subject to certain conditions.
Speaking on the petitions filed by some political parties, the High Court made it clear that petitions from evacuees alone would be entertained by the bench from here on to avoid the issue being politicized.
After the original GO being rejected and after the hearing being adjourned the last time, the State government once again submitted a fresh GO to the court explaining its renewed policies towards oustees and the measures it intended to implement to rehabilitate and compensate them.
Responding to it, the High Court passed the GO, but also directed the State government to rehabilitate and compensate the farmers before purchasing lands from them.
However, the High Court approved the purchase of lands for the National Investment and Manufacturing Zones (NIMZ) by the government.
