Reviewing a petition filed by one Mandadapu Sudhakar against Khammam TRS MLA Puvvada Ajay Kumar for illegally constructing a medical college, the Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday ruled against the construction and ordered the MLA to stop all works on the NPS ground immediately.
As per reports, the land originally belonged to the State government. Upon being requested by Kumar, the KCR-led government had sold the land to him at half the market value under GO MS No 59.
But Kumar, who had originally taken the land as part of the initiative to protect vacant government properties, built a medical college on a portion of the land.
A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the High Court against the GO 59 and against Kumar's move. Upon reviewing the petition, the Court ordered him to stop all constructions for the next three weeks and also ordered an investigation into the alleged illegal construction. The High Court is considering giving the land back to farmers living and working on that land.
This petition has significance not long ago, the Supreme Court had said that all vacant government properties which were no longer in use ought to be given to farmers and their heirs residing in and around that land.
But the government apparently went against this decision and sold the property to Ajay Kumar.
