HC Orders 5% Quota To Disabled In Allotment Of Liquor Shops
The Telangana High Court issued interim orders to the Telangana government to extend 5% reservation in allotment of liquor shops to the physically challenged.
Ponugoti Chokka Rao, General Secretary, Development & Welfare Association of the Blind, Telangana; & Secretary, All India Confederation of the Blind; today said that not only the visually challenged people but all of the divyangjan community was happy that their case no. WP/22617/2023 had been accepted by the High Court and that it had issued interim orders to the Telangana government to extend 5% reservation in allotment of liquor shops to the physically challenged.
"It is a great victory for Divyangans in general and the blind community in particular," he said.
Rao added that his Association was also asking the government to extend a 1% reservation for the visually challenged of the 5% reservation for the physically challenged as in the case of job reservations.
"This will pave the way for the allotment of some 130 liquor shops to Divyangjans / the PH, of which around 26 shops will be for the visually challenged. I request the government to implement the court order, and issue other government orders for allotment to the blind community of liquor shops, ration shops and so on," Rao said.
