Six members of a family, including two children, reportedly committed suicides by consuming pesticide at Mamillagadda in the early hours due to financial problems.
Police said that the family members of a BSNL employee Kasthuri Janardhan consumed pesticide mixed in soft drinks in the early hours due to pressure from creditors.
The deceased were Kasthuri Janardhan, 55; his wife Chandrakala, 50; son Ashok, 25; elder daughter-in-law Prabhata, 30; and her children 5-year-old Siri, 5 and 2-year-old Rithvik.
Police said that Janardhan's eldest son Suresh, who had invested huge money in the stock markets, had incurred losses and was keeping himself away from the family. The money-lenders had been visiting the house every day and pressurizing the family to return their money for some time. Dejected with their lives, the head of the family reportedly took the extreme decision that they would all end their lives to save themselves from the recurring shame.
The police have launched a manhunt for Suresh, it is learnt.
