BRS MLA Harish Rao today accused CM Revanth Reddy of harassing the poor and the middle-class under the guise of illegal construction demolitions, to the extent that it was driving them to tears.
"The government should seek the blessings of the poor, not cause them suffering. What is the point of developing the city on the tears of the poor?" he asked.
Rao, accompanied by representatives of the BRS legal cell and former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, held a meeting with the victims of the HYDRA demolitions at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad.
Speaking on the occasion, he alleged that the State government officials were allowing large buildings to be constructed on the Musi River, while threatening to demolish the homes of the poor, and demanded that the Musi river beautification project proceed only after an all-party meeting.
He also said that a team of BRS MLAs would visit the affected areas to assess the victims' issues.
Rao claimed that former CM K Chandrashekar Rao did not trouble the people during his tenure, and contrasted his leadership with CM Revanth Reddy's "ill-conceived decisions" which were damaging the reputation of Hyderabad. He criticized the Chief Minister for failing to focus on the well-being of the people, particularly in implementing the promised six guarantees within 100 days.
Referring to the tragic suicide of Kukatpally resident G Buchamma, Rao said that it was not merely a suicide but a murder caused by CM Revanth Reddy's policies. Buchamma, a resident of Yadava Basthi, had built a house for her three daughters and arranged their weddings, and killed herself worried that her house would be demolished after other houses in the vicinity were getting demolished by HYDRAA.
Rao reassured the victims of the demolitions, calling them part of the BRS family, and promised that the doors of Telangana Bhavan would always be open to them to provide them any kind of help they might need.
