Telangana Finance Minister T Harish Rao today criticised the Centre for "burdening" the people of the state and the nation with high fuel and LPG cylinder prices.
The minister conducted a door-to-door campaign in the 14th ward of the Siddipet municipality ahead of the upcoming local body elections to be held on April 30, during which he appealed to the public to support the TRS candidate.
Speaking to voters, the minister alleged that the Centre had hiked petrol prices to Rs 100 a litre and LPG charges to almost Rs 1,000 per cylinder.
He said, "Our government has been spending huge funds on the development of all the municipalities and corporations in the state. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has been offering adequate funds for the development of villages and towns as well. We release Rs 148 crore every month for the development of towns. In stark contrast, the BJP has done precious little to help the people of the state. In fact, the Modi government has only added to the problems of the public by raising the prices of critical basic amenities. I hope the voters will choose to support us for our commitment to welfare."
Rao also urged the voters of the region not to believe in the "false propaganda" of the BJP or any other parties who were "only good at stalling development" in the state.
"Our government supports its people by implementing schemes like the Kalyan Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak programs, and a wide variety of pensions as well. No other state government provides such comprehensive welfare. We hope to get the support of the people to continue to bring development and welfare to the state. We have developed this segment and Siddipet town in general. Today, the region is equipped with various modern facilities - the region is noted for its great roads and footpaths, an underground drainage system and beautiful parks. Local roads and the Komati Cheruvu have been developed and are now being enjoyed by the residents," he asserted.
