In a tragic incident, Kuknoorpalli Sub-Inspector of Police T Ramakrishna Reddy committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver on Tuesday.
The SI was a native of the Nalgonda district. He is survived by his wife and two children.
Reddy, 46, left a suicide note in which he had stated that he was being harassed by higher-ranking officers and that he was unable to bear it.
He had reportedly spoken to a few of his colleagues over the phone before the incident and told them about taking the extreme step. Some of them immediately left for his home to stop him, but by the time they reached it, he was lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead-on-arrival by the doctors.
Hours before shooting himself to death, he had also called his wife and told her that he was quitting the job. But his wife did not think that his frustration would take such a tragic turn.
Reddy had worked in various police stations across Hyderabad in the past and was well-known in his circle.
The police is currently investigating the case from the "harassment" angle, since the general consensus seems to point to that. Superintendent Of Police Chandrasekhar Reddy, who visited the spot, said that an inquiry had been ordered into the incident, and that Nizamabad Additional Superintendent Of Police Pratap Reddy would conduct it.
Meanwhile, alleging that DSP Sridhar and Circle Inspector Venkataiah were responsible for abetting the suicide and demanding action against them, Ramakrishna Reddy's kin staged a dharna in Gajwel.
