Gudimalkapur division corporator Devara Karunakar, of the BJP, died of brain stroke on Thursday night.
The family members of the corporator admitted him to the Banjara Hills-based City Neuro Hospital. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Karunakar's daughter Bhavani had also died earlier, due to Covid-19.
Karunakar won from the Gudimalkapur division thrice.
Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar expressed his grief over the death of Karunakar, and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family members of the corporator.
He said that Karunakar had stood by the poor people of his division, and that he had also played an important role in taking the welfare schemes of the union government to the doorsteps of the people of his division.
Union Minister for Tourism & Culture G Kishan Reddy also expressed shock over the death of Karunakar, and added that the corporator had conducted service programs not only on behalf of the party but also personally. He said that the party had lost a disciplined soldier in the city, and that the bond of Karunakar with the party was unbreakable.
GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalaxmi also expressed shock over the death. She visited City Neuro Hospital and paid tributes to the mortal remains of the corporator.
She recollected that Karunakar had contested from the Karwan and Nampally Assembly constituencies in the past, and said that it was saddening that the city had lost a senior corporator.
GHMC Commissioner D S Lokesh Kumar also expressed his condolences at the demise of the corporator.
