On Friday, Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu demanded that the Election Commission issue separate schedules for the second and the third phase of the Gram Panchayats? elections.
In a letter written to the State Election Commissioner, the TDP chief said that the nomination process for the three phases of Gram Panchayat elections should be notified separately, thus fixing the period between publication of the list of contesting candidates and the polling day for all the three phases.
He said that a similar process had been adopted in the Gram Panchayat elections held in 2006.
It may be mentioned that the last date for the receipt of nominations has been fixed as July 9 for all the three phases.
Polling is to be held on July 23 for the first phase, July 27 for the second phase, and July 31 for the third phase. Naidu also said that this schedule was faulty and should be revised.
