KCR called Vidyasagar Rao, a Telanganite, and urged him to release waters to Basara in the Adilabad district, where the Godavari has practically run dry.
Hyderabad | 12th July 2015
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today called up Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao, who hails from Telangana, and appealed to him to release waters to Telangana for the Godavari Pushkaralu.
As the Pushkaralu are beginning from July 14, KCR called Vidyasagar Rao and urged him to release waters to Basara in the Adilabad district, where there is a deficit of waters.
With this, the hopes are high that the Maharashtra government may release waters to Telangana, since the Telangana government had already requested the Maharashtra government earlier for the release of waters, and reportedly when KCR called up his Maharashtra counterpart Devendra Fadnavis for this, the latter is learnt to have conceded to the request.
To buttress the efforts, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao has also been also making efforts with the Maharashtra government.
The Telangana government has released 3,000 cusecs down from the Sriram Sagar project, and will continue to do so until the Pushkaralu end on July 25. (NSS)
