To ensure smooth and hassle-free conduct of the Godavari pushkaralu (scheduled from July 14 to 25) in five Telangana districts, the state government began efforts to get waters from adjoining Maharashtra.
Right now there is a shortage of water at the Basara pushkar ghat in the Adilabad district, and the state government is making all-out efforts to address the problem by taking help from the Maharashtra government.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is learnt to have called up his Maharasthra counterpart Devendra Fadnavis and sought release of water for the purpose.
KCR is said to have asked Fadnavis to release 4 to 5 TMC of water to Adilabad to enable Telangana celebrate in the Godavari pushkaralu in a grand manner.
It is learnt that the Maharashtra government is likely to announce or communicate its decision to the Telangana government on Friday evening or Saturday.
Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao, a BJP leader from Telangana and former union minister, also reportedly advised Fadnavis to release water to Telangana for the pushkaralu.
The Telangana irrigation minister also began efforts to expedite the process of getting water from Maharashtra, it is learnt. (NSS)
