Welcoming the High Court's verdict removing the life-ban on former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin, Congress MLC MLC Farooq Hussain on Thursday demanded that the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) should allow Azhar to play at least one more test match.
Talking to reporters at Legislative Council's media point, Farooq Hussain said that in view of High Court's verdict, the BCCI should allow Azhar to complete his 100th test match by inducting him into the team. He said that the High Court's verdict has given a major relief to lakhs of Azhar's fans who have been waiting for this day.
Farooq Hussain said that the Congress party has always believed that Azhar was innocent, and that that was the reason why he was given a ticket from Moradabad Lok Sabha constituency in 2009 elections. He said that, in view of the court's judgment, the party should promote him further.
Reacting to the recent statement of Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu calling Congress leaders "wild boars", the Congress MLC said that Naidu's statement was highly condemnable. He said that Naidu should accept the reality that major scams such as the fake stamp-paper racket, food for work, etc., occurred during TDP's rule, and that several TDP leaders were named in such scams. He said that it was wrong on the part of Naidu to blame only Congress leaders for corruption. (INN)
