Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) president Mohammad Azharuddin today denied the allegations surrounding the sale of tickets for the upcoming T20 cricket match between India and Australia in the city on September 25.
He said that some people were deliberately spreading falsehoods about the sale, and that there was not even an iota of truth in the allegations.
Speaking to mediapersons, Azharuddin said that the tickets were also sold through the PayTM app, and praised the app's management for their "wonderful job". He said that the app had sold the tickets in a transparent manner, even checking the Aadhaar cards of those who bought four or more tickets online. He said that in all 11,450 tickets had been sold through PayTM, online.
Of the remaining, he said that 4,000 tickets had been booked under the corporate category, and that 3,000 tickets had been sold offline. 6,000 tickets were given to internal stakeholders, sponsors and corporate companies, he claimed.
On the sale of the tickets in the black market by some office-bearers of the association, he said that the HCA would take stringent action against those who had resorted to such illegal acts.
He also termed the stampede that took place at the Gymkhana grounds as unfortunate, and said added that the HCA would extend appropriate support to the injured. He however asserted that the HCA was not responsible for the incident.
HCA secretary Vijayanand said that his team had no role in the sale of the tickets, and that they were busy supervising the arrangements for the match.
