Talks held between Telangana Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy and seven trade unions of the GHMC's workers today failed as the government did not heed to their demands for wage hikes and more.
With this the workers' unions vowed to continue their strike until the government conceded to their demands.
The strike continued for the sixth consecutive day on Saturday with the outsourced workers on the warpath. As a result, the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad are gripped by the stench of garbage and trash piled up on every thoroughfare, lane and by-lane.
People are expressing serious discontent with the government for failing to remedy the situation.
On the other hand all political parties expressed solidarity with the workers at a protest at Indira Park today. The leaders uniformly slammed Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for not resolving the issue.
It may be mentioned here that ever since KCR gave in easily to the RTC employees strike in May, conceding all their demands and in fact offering more in an effort to go one up on AP CM Chandrababu Naidu, a series of striked demanding wage hikes have been happening in Telangana. (NSS)
