GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi today called upon the corporators of the civic body to take part in the
ongoing special sanitation drive in Hyderabad in their respective wards, for two hours every day.
"The GHMC has taken up a massive sanitation drive to remove garbage across the city after Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao asked that such a drive be organised to mitigate the chance of the spread of any diseases due to accumulated garbage in many areas of the capital. We must all do our bit to make the drive a success. I would, therefore, urge all corporators to take part in the sanitation works from 6:00 am to 8:00 am each day. Corporators must also ensure that sodium hypochlorite is sprayed across their wards and that garbage removal is carried out efficiently as well," the mayor said.
Further, she also urged them to create awareness among the residents of their divisions about the ill effects of dumping garbage in public spaces, and added, "Please ensure that the residents know to dispose off litter into the Swachh auto-rickshaws of the corporation. This is the need of the hour since proper sanitation will go a long way in preventing the spread of Covid-19. Please coordinate with the deputy commissioners, medical officers, and sanitation staff of your respective divisions as part of this drive."
