Telangana Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav and Home Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali today said that the incidence of Covid-19 cases and the number of Covid-related deaths in the state were both registering sharp falls.
The two ministers convened a high-level meeting on the pandemic situation during which they reviewed the implementation of measures being implemented to check the spread of the disease at the GHMC office.
Speaking at the meeting, they said, "With the efficient coordination between various government departments and officials, Covid-19 cases in Telangana have been falling. The proper functioning of government hospitals and basthi dhawakhanas, the success of the
door-to-door fever survey and the numerous special
sanitation efforts have also helped curb the rise in the case figures. Unfortunately, however, the immunisation drive in Telangana has had to be suspended as there is a severe shortage of vaccines - we have not received any vaccines from the Centre since the last three days. As a result, the drive has been temporarily stopped. It will be resumed as soon as more doses of the vaccines are received. Meanwhile, a dedicated Covid-19 control room has been opened in the GHMC. Those wishing to contact the office can call 040-21111111."
The ministers also took the opportunity to lambast the parties of the Opposition for "trying to spread misinformation" about the TRS regime's handling of the ongoing pandemic.
Srinivas Yadav alleged, "Though the
number of cases has been falling continuously due to the efforts of various government officials and departments, the Opposition continues to try and gain mileage by making comments against our government. Such attempts will be futile since the house-to-house surveys and the distribution of medical kits for those under home isolation will help in bringing down case numbers. At this point, the leaders of rival parties should also extend their support to us to help bring down cases."
Referring, in all likelihood, to Congress MP A Revanth Reddy, he further said, "In the name of giving food to the poor, some leaders are violating lockdown norms in the state. They will then claim that our government is not being able to contain the pandemic."
The minister then urged the people of the state to follow the lockdown timings and to stay home to "break the chain" of the spread of the coronavirus.
Both Yadav and Mahmood Ali appreciated the efforts of Telangana's health workers for their tireless work throughout the pandemic.
GHMC Mayor G Vijaylakshmi, Deputy Mayor M Srilatha Reddy, GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar, and Hyderabad Collector Swetha Mohanty were among those officials who attended the meeting.
