Although the TRS government has taken several steps, including implementing
a ten-day lockdown, to combat the spread of Covid-19 in the state, Telangana continues to register a fairly high number of new cases daily.
A bulletin released by the state's health department stated that after 77,221 people were tested in the last 24 hours, Telangana had registered 4,693 new cases yesterday. Of these, 734 were recorded in the GHMC area alone. The state currently has 56,917 active cases.
Further, the state reported 33 deaths Covid-19 yesterday, pushing up the state's cumulative death tally to a high 2,833.
However, health officials also reported 6,876 recoveries.
Apart from implementing a lockdown, the state government has been taking many other measures to ameliorate the situation. It has been focusing on stocking up vaccines, medical oxygen, and Remdesivir injections, and has issued notifications for the recruitment of health workers. Besides this, it has extended the second dose vaccination drive till May 31, This had to be done as Telangana is currently facing a shortage of vaccines.
Meanwhile, government officials have been
inspecting the state's hospitals regularly as well. IT Minister K T Rama Rao recently also held
a meeting to review the management of the pandemic yesterday.
