Labour Minister Danam Nagender on Friday said that the Congress party would honour its power-sharing pact with the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen. Accordingly, it will vacate the post of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Mayor to facilitate the election of the MIM candidate to it.
Talking to media persons, Danam Nagender said that the party has received a letter in this connection from the MIM, and that it would take a decision soon after discussing it within the party.
He said that the party would honour the power-sharing agreement with the MIM over the Mayor's tenure - 3 years for the Congress candidate and the remaining 2 years for the MIM candidate.
"There is no change of the party's stand on this issue. It will honour it promise, at any cost," he stated.
In the proposed meeting, the party will discuss the continuation of remaining tenure of Mayor B Karthika Reddy, who will complete a 2-year stint as GHMC Mayor on 4 December.
Danam said that the 2-year tenure of the Deputy Mayor's post would be allocated to 2 persons so that more candidates stand a chance. (INN)
