The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) today officially went cashless and offered cash-free electronic transactions for all its utilities, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's drive for the same post-demonetization.
GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy held a meeting with heads of department, zonal, deputy commissioners, medical officers and valuations officials. The meeting was also attended by city Mayor Bonthu Rammohan.
As per the GHMC, only 12% people in the city were using online payment modes under the jurisdiction of GHMC, and the percentage needed to be increased in a phased manner, encouraging people to go cashless.
Cashless facilities would be available in the centers including the official website of GHMC (www.ghmc.gov.in), MyGHMC mobile App, Handheld Missions, Citizen Service centers, Mee-Seva, e-Seva centres along with RTGS/NEFT, as per the municipal body. Citizens could address the payment of their taxes to GHMC's account number 520-8215-5599.
Janardhan Reddy said there were 350 bill collectors in GHMC and they would be given special swiping machines for doing cashless transactions.
On the occasion, the Mayor said the GHMC would conduct a survey in the city to know the exact number of traders and commercial places, as at present only one and half lakh trade licenses were issued, and this number might increase three times if a survey were to be conducted.
