Hyderabad | 3rd January 2017
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy held a review meeting with Assistant Medical Officers of Health, and Deputy and Zonal Commissioners about preparedness for Swachch Survekshan 2017, under the aegis of Swachch Bharath. The meeting proposed to give a big push to Swachch Bharath Mission which is going to take off on January 26, 2017.
A convergence meeting between the GHMC and the Police took place today at the municipal body's head office wherein it was decided that the departments will work towards branding Hyderabad's image further as a world class city by using international standards to develop infrastructure.
The Commissioner of Police assured the municipal corporation that the Police Department would support it in all reasonable aspects and also support the Swachch Bharat initiative. He suggested public perception of the GHMC and Swachch Bharath Mission needed improvement if they were hoping for better rankings. This could be done by disseminating all necessary information and making the public equal stakeholders in the initiative.
Both the Commissioner, the GHMC and the CoP stated that the enforcement mechanism to ensure cleanliness in the city should be objective, transparent and evidence base without any significant discretionary powers to the enforcing agencies, like the present enforcement drive against drunken driving being taken up by the city Police.
The GHMC Commissioner exhorted the officials to lay extra efforts on sanitation and general upkeep of the city to improve the overall national ranking of the city this time around.
He said that the focus should be on proper segregation of waste from the household level. Reddy added that the motto of the GHMC was "unite families and separate waste".
Collection of Property Tax, Trade Licenses and especially speedy implementation of the online mutation process has also been come for discussion. The Commissioner, GHMC emphasized the need to enhance the resource base of the Corporation for delivery of better services to the Citizens.
He asked the deputy commissioners to assess their own circles on a weekly-basis and triangulate the weaknesses and improvise.
In related news, the Quality Council of India (QCI) is scheduled to deploy its assessment team to the city in the first week of February 2017.
