Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi today conducted a surprise inspection of several sections of the GHMC head office.
The Mayor visited the Town Planning, Health and Veterinary departments.
In her visit, the Mayor found officials in the Town Planning department absent during her inspection, and expressed her anger.
Additional Commissioner (Administration) Nalini Padmavathi, who accompanied the Mayor, was asked to check the attendance register, and it transpired that many officials had gone to get breakfast as their chairs were vacant despite their having signed in. The Mayor was upset at the officials of the Town Planning section as they were receiving a lot of complaints through Prajavani but the complainants were being made to roam around without their issues being resolved.
The Mayor was also angry as some employees in the Health department were browsing their cell phones leaving their work aside.
The Mayor said that the staff should report by 10:30 am, with another 10 minutes given as grace time, and that those who did not come to the office by 10:40 am would be marked late. Three late arrivals would be allowed in a month, and one casual leave would be cut per late arrival thereafter, she said. If there was no casual leave balance then one EL per late arrival would be cut, she added.
The Mayor issued instructions to all the departments of GHMC to submit the report of attendance every month.
