Hyderabad | 1st February 2016
To make it convenient for citizens to exercise their franchise in the GHMC elections in a hassle-free manner, the State government declared February 2 as a paid holiday.
The government issued orders under the Negotiable Instruments Act to shut banks, schools, educational institutions, government offices, private establishments and business organizations on Tuesday.
The government asked the district Collectors concerned to strictly implement the holiday in the three districts of Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medak which are under the GHMC limits.
This would increase the voting percentage in the civic polls, the government said.
The IT organisations in the city also declared a half-day holiday.
Chief Secretary Dr Rajiv Sharma directed the district Collectors concerned to see that the holiday was strictly implemented.
