A contract employee of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation drowned, while 4 others sustained injuries, in a mishap that took place on Thursday.
The employee, identified as Devender, was working as a contract labourer in the GHMC's drainage-cleaning work. He drowned while cleaning a drain near Mahankali Temple at Bata Showroom in Secunderabad.
The 4 injured are out of danger, and are undergoing treatment in various hospitals.
Expressing concern over the death of the employee, GHMC mayor Majid Hussain announced ex-gratia of Rs. one lakh to the next of kin of the family, and assured one family member of employment in the GHMC.
The mayor said that he would make arrangements for providing Rs. one lakh to the victim from the contractor.
Deputy mayor G Raj Kumar, GHMC Congress floor leader K Venkatesh, GHMC TDP floor leader Singireddy Srinivasreddy, BJP floor leader B Prakash and GHMC special commissioner Naveen Mittal visited the spot. (INN)
