GHMC To Build Shelters For Homeless
The GHMC appealed for all means of help from the society to provide homes and basic necessities to the homeless.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) appealed to the general public and philanthropists on Wednesday to help in cash or kind in its bid to set up night shelters for the destitute and homeless.
The GHMC has already formulated an action plan for establishing night shelters for these homeless people. The identification of homeless people has already started and efforts are underway to operationalise the night shelters.
GHMC Additional Commissioner GD Priya Darshini said that the plight of the destitute and homeless people was deplorable and undignified. These homeless and socially neglected people are subjected to violence and abuse.
The destitute are also prone to chronic diseases, psychiatric disorders, criminalization, drug addiction, exploitation, malnutrition and irregular food habits.
At this juncture, Priya Darshini said that the GHMC invited the participation and generous support from the public philanthropic organizations, NGOs, hospitals, corporate companies and other establishments to bring cheer and joy into the lives of these distressed and neglected section of the society.
The Commissioner said that the GHMC requested all concerned to extend their co-operation in providing facilities for the night shelters (beds, bed-sheets, pillows, blankets, carpets, buckets, plates, glasses, kitchen-ware / utensils, TVs, indoor games, provisions, and food arrangements). GHMC welcomes contribution from all in cash or kind or through active participation and assistance.
