Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy today said that a survey was being conducted by the GHMC to identify and license street vending in all circles in the city.
Speaking after inaugurating "vendor places" in the circle VI under the South Zone, the Commissioner said that details of 5,782 street vendors had been surveyed so far, and the details of 2,904 of them had been registered on the TMEPMA website.
"The Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood & Regulation of Street Vending) Act 2014, provides the protection of the right to livelihood and social security, and the regulation of urban street vending. Under the NULM (National Urban Livelihood Mission), street vendors belonging to the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and other BPL vendors can access skill training under the EST&P component and also access micro-enterprise development support under the Self-Employment Program component."
"The Town Vending Committees (TVCs), under GHMC directives, will provide accommodation for all licensed street vendors in the vending zones, subject to a norm conforming to 2.5% of the total town population. Every licensed hawker shall maintain civic amenities and public property in the vending zone,” Reddy said.
