The CBI Special Court on Thursday adjourned the hearing on custody and bail petitions of former Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy and Obulapuram Mining Corporation (OMC) Managing Director B V Srinivas Reddy, to Friday.
The hearing was adjourned following the a boycott call given by the Bar Council Of India. The boycott call was in protest against the bomb blast at Delhi High Court on Wednesday which claimed 11 lives and injured 91 others.
Following the Bar Council's call, lawyers in the Nampally Criminal Court, including the CBI Special Court, boycotted their duties on Wednesday. Gali Janardhan Reddy's senior counsels did not turn up for the hearing. The junior advocates requested the court to defer the hearing for Saturday or Monday.
However, the CBI's counsel objected, stating that the case was of a very serious nature.
The CBI Special Court then postponed the hearing on both the custody and bail petitions, to Friday.
CBI Joint Director Laxminarayana, Superintendent of Police Venkatesh, and Additional Superintendent of Police Khan attended the court.
Earlier, Janardhan Reddy's counsel pleaded in the bail application that his client would cooperate with the CBI in its investigation. He said that Gali had also offered to surrender his passport and promised to stay in his Hyderabad's bungalow under the CBI's surveillance. (INN)
