The Special CBI Court on Monday remanded former Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy to 14 days of judicial custody.
Earlier, Gali, along with Obulapuram Mining Corporation Managing Director B Srinivasa Reddy, was arrested by the CBI in Bellary on Monday in the multi-crore mining scam.
After hearing arguments from CBI counsels and a team of 11 lawyers representing Gali, the CBI Special Court remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody.
When lawyers sought bail for him, the Special Court asked them to file a separate petition by Wednesday.
The lawyers argued over how the CBI could arrest Gali Janardhan Reddy without mentioning his name in the First Information Report. They said that he was in no way connected to the day-to-day activities of Obulapuram Mining Corporation, and that the compant was being managed by the Managing Director Srinivasa Reddy.
However, the Special Court refused both the petitions and remanded him to 14 days judicial custody. On the court's directions, Gali was shifted to the Chanchalguda Central Prison under tight security.
Earlier, CBI officials brought Janardhan Reddy and Srinivasa Reddy from Bellary to Hyderabad by road after they were arrested in connection with illegal iron ore mining. After brief questioning and medical examination by doctors, the accused were produced before the Special CBI Court at Nampally. (INN)
