Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, the Minister for IT, Youth and Sports, on Tuesday, announced that the state government would award Rs. 21 lakhs to Gagan Narang on becoming the first sportsperson from the country to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics.
Venkat Reddy told media persons that the award is part of the government's continuous efforts to promote sports. The Sports Minister revealed that the shooter would be felicitated at a colourful function to be held in Hyderabad.
He hoped that Narang would bring laurels to the state by winning a gold medal in the London Olympics.
Gagan Narang became the first Indian shooter to qualify for 2012 Olympics to be held in London, after he clinched the bronze medal in a 10 metre air rifle event at the Munich World Championships, earlier in the month.
