Hyderabad-based NGO Forum For Good Governance (FGG), a body that aims to guide governance reforms, today wrote to Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao urging him to take steps for the immediate appointment of food inspectors in the state.
It informed the minister that the 20 selected food inspectors recruited by the Telangana State Public Service Commission had been awaiting their postings since the last six months, and urged the minister to issue the inspectors' appointment letters at the earliest, and to expedite their training.
Besides this, FGG Secretary M Padmanabha Reddy appealed to the minister to set up a special flying squad to prevent the adulteration of food in the state, and to establish another food testing lab in order to fight adulteration more effectively.
Citing the rising cases of adulteration in the state, Reddy also pointed out the need to establish a forum to which such cases could be reported, and requested KTR to set up complaint cells in all the districts of the state.
The FGG has been involved in the fight against food adulteration since 2015, and even filed a public interest litigation regarding the issue in the High Court.
